Mandela Day celebrates Nelson Mandela’s birthday and members of the public are urged to do their bit to make the world a better place.

The GSCID partnered with its stakeholders today to host an event honouring Mandela at the GSCID Straatwerk Depot in Mowbray for those less fortunate working on the Straatwerk programme

Present at the event were: Cllr Matthew Kempthorne, Manu Wope, Hannes Van Der Merwe, Col Breedt and representatives of SAPS Rondebosch, Col Dyers and representatives of SAPS Mowbray, Wynberg West Law Enforcement Officers and Rondebosch CPF Chairperson, Bernard Soules.

Soup, rolls, winter warmer packs and loaves of bread were distributed to the homeless clients participating in the Straatwerk programme.

A special word of thanks to Pick ‘n Pay Observatory, Rondebosch CPF, Hill Crest Primary and SAPS Mowbray for their donations towards the GSCID Mandela Day initiative. The GSCID would also like to extend a word of thanks to its partner LMRID, for their assistance during the Winter Warmer Drive.

The day was a huge success and Straatwerk workers expressed their gratitude for the items they received.
