The GSCID Winter Drive 2017 of collecting soups, beanies and scarves to donate to the homeless culminated today, Mandela Day, in a lunchtime function at the GSCID Cleaning Depot in Mowbray.

The distribution of thick home-made veggie soup and rolls , prepared by GSCID staff, scarves and beanies and gift packs of loaves of bread and noodle soups to take away to approximately forty homeless people on the Straatwerk work programme was well received and appreciated.

The gathering of Straatwerk workers who are responsible for keeping the streets of the precinct clean were thanked for their enormous contribution to keeping our neighbourhood looking spic and span in all weather.

Mandela Day presented an opportunity to express the GSCID’s gratitude for the hard work they do and to treat them to a steaming cup of hot soup and bread.

Huge thanks to SAPS Mowbray who sponsored 200 bread rolls and to Pick ‘n Pay St Peter’s Square in Observatory for the donation of loaves of freshly baked bread. Also to the many volunteers who helped to make this day such a success!
