The Strategic Development Framework emphasises the close relationship that the GSCID has with the University of Cape Town. The area includes a number of additional educational institutions such as CPUT, schools, and private colleges. The SDF puts forward the idea of marketing the area as a “Learning District”, with emphasis on the benefits of education for residents, visitors to the area, and commuters. UCT and the GSCID are therefore able to work together to market the area as a Learning District and highlight opportunities offered in the area.

The objective of the ‘Property Survey and Levy Payers Database’ has been to identify the property typology, land use zoning, functional use and current owners of each land parcel in the GSCID area. From this information, now compiled as a database, it was possible to spatially locate the current levy payers and all sectional titles in the area as represented in the maps. The purpose, therefore, has been to provide a deeper understanding of the GSCID area for improved, evidence-based decision-making with regard to expanding the current rates base and strategic interventions for greater community involvement.  It also enables us to communicate regularly with this database which is very important.
